After his marriage, they moved to a farm near Shullsburg, and most of his life was spent in that vicinity until the spring of 1898 when with his family he moved to this village where he anticipated enjoying a few years of rest and pleasure. But his health failed rapidly, all treatment was of no avail and he quietly went to sleep Tuesday night, July 20. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and three daughters, Mrs Leslie Sanders, Warren, Ill; Mrs Arthur Steele, Hanover, Ill; Miss Sarah at home, and one son, Richard on the farm. Also one sister, Mrs John Sincox of Warren. Two Brothers, James Thomas of Dubuque, Ia, and John Thomas of Mitchell, S.D. When a young man Mr Thomas became a member of the Modern Woodmen of America lodge at Shullsburg, later changing his membership to Scales Mound. Mr Thomas was reared in a Christian home and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Hazel Green when a young man, his early training influenced his entire life and nowhere were his kind deeds and thoughtfulness more known and appreciated than by the members of his family, whom he tried to give every comfort & pleasure. In his community Mr Thomas was an outstanding man in all good things. He was a man of honor & high principal. He had kind words only for everyone.
