Final Rites Held for Mrs. Mary Patton
Mrs. Mary Patton, a native of Ireland, who had spent practically her entire life in Shelby county, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at the home of her step-daughter, Mrs. Dollie Jones, with whom she had resided for the past twenty years.
As Mary A. Stutt, she was born in Ireland on May 13, 1857. At the age of six weeks, she came with her parents to America and settled in Illinois. After a few months there, they moved to Hagers Grove, and the remainder of her life, with the exception of five years in Columbia, Mo., was spent in Shelby county.
As a young girl of eighteen, she joined the Christian church at Hagers Grove, and was always true to her ideals.
On January 27, 1884, she was married to Samuel S. Patton, who died on August 3, 1888, leaving her two small daughters and two step-children to rear.
She leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Mrs. John (Rachel) Hall of Bozeman, Mont., two step-sons, Tim Patton of California and S. S. Patton of Clarence, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Dollie Jones of Clarence. Also surviving are six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and twenty-four step-great grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Hagers Grove church at 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. Elba Martin, of Clarence, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
