Mrs. Eliza M. Jones Brinegar was born at Lane's Prairie, Missouri October 8, 1848 and died July 10, 1930 at her home in St. James where she had resided since 1909, being 82 years, nine months and 2 days. She was the daughter of William and Nancy Harrison who came to this country from Ashville, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky respectively. She was one of a family of seven children all of whom have reared families in this community, and all except one sister, Mrs. Permelia Murray of Belle, Mo. have preceded her in death. She was married to G.W. Jones March 5, 1868 and to this union, four children were born, two dying in infancy, Mrs. Gertie Schneider, wife of the late John Schneider, died May 27, 1906. Mrs. Edward Bray is the only surviving child together with three grandaughters, Miss Elsie Bray of St. James, Mo, Mrs. Geo. M. Powell of Springfield, Mo and Mrs. W.S. Sewell of Springfield and three great grandchildren. Mr. Jones died February 5, 1909 at Lindell, Mo. She later married Captain J.P. Brinegar of West Plains, who preceded her in death a few years ago. In the passing of this most estimable woman, death has removed from our midst one of the outstanding characters of our community. She was one of that old pioneer stock which has made the Ozark country great. In early years of her married life, she worked side by side with her husband to establish a home and business and provide a future for her family. How well she succeeded in doing this is best told by her old neighbors many of whom still live to bless the name of Mr. and Mrs. Jones. There is not a family living in the vicinity of Lindell, in Maries county whose lives have not been touched by the lives of these pioneer people. Mrs. Brinegar united with the Christian church at Lindell many years ago and since that timeshe has been an ardent supporter and earnest worker for the cause of her Master- always putting her church before everything else. She was a woman of high ideals and positive in her decisions. Slow to make a decision, but when her mind was once made up she went forward in her determination to help wherever she was able. Many poor and needy in this community will miss her philanthropies. She was an earnest worker in the Order of the Eastern Star and an active member of the Meramec Springs Chapter of St. James, Mo. Mrs. Brinegar has gone from our midst but her life and character will go on living and yielding its influence in the lives of many who have felt her influence. Rev. Romine paid her a beautiful tribute, he spoke of her kindness to him as a young preacher. This was only one of the good deeds this dear woman did for Humanity. The host of friends and beautiful floral offerings demonstrated their love and esteem for her. The funeral service was conducted at the Christian Church. Rev. E.M. Romine and Rev. W.T. Walker Officiating and interment in the Masonic Cemetery.
