Inf.; b. near Clifton, Fairfax County, son of William H. and Frances (Jenkins) Butler; voted for secession at Sangster's 4/23/61; enlisted Pvt. 4/25/61 at Fairfax C.H.; age 34; promoted Cpl. 5/24/61; absent sick in Hospital, Farmville, Va. with rheumatism 7/63 - 9/63; promoted Sgt. 11/8/62; captured at Five Forks, Va. 4/1/65 sent to Hart's Island, N. Y. Harbor; released 6/21/65 after taking the oath; lived in Clifton; on list of ex-confederates living Fairfax County c. 1898, age 67; member R. E. Lee Camp U.C.V., Alex., Va.; Va. Pensioner, Fairfax County, 1904, $30.00; d. 2/1/1907, age 75; bur. Hollywood Cemetery Richmond; brother of Pvt. William B. Butler, Co. A, 43rd Battalion Va. Cavalry.

Richard H Butler was son of William Butler and Frances Jenkins and grandson of Elsha Jenkins and Susannah Pritchartt of Fairfax Co Va. No burial record to date for anyone.

It appears Richard never married. His brother is William Brown Butler. Unable to locate his siblings from Fairfax Co or Alexandria, but will keep looking. Updated 2/15/2016

In 1880 he was living with his widowed mother Fannie Butler, an uncle H Y Butler and black servants Louisa Elsey and her child Mary in Centerville, Fairfax Co Va.

In 1900 he was a boarder in the house of Buckley's in Centerville Fairfax Co VA. (he is related to Buckley's)
