Sigurd Angel Rhode was born 9 Sep 1879 in Drammen, Norway, and was christened 2 Nov 1879 in the Lutheran Church.
He pronounced his middle name "Ahnn-gel," with a hard G.
His parents moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 1894, when he was about 15.
He married Agnes Berg 26 Jan 1909 in Duluth.
He was employed in Duluth as a wholesale druggist for Northern Drug Company and as a retail druggist for the Orpheum Drug Store, as well as a "relief" person for other drug stores. He had a sideline business of selling wheat germ, which he boxed up and then sold in grocery stores, printing his own labels on a printing press in his basement.
In 1942 he took a six-week electrician course (he had previous experience wiring houses) and then took a job as an electrician at the shipyard in Superior, Wisconsin, which was building ships for the U.S. Navy during World War II (in 1942 he was 63 years old). He worked the night shift in maintenance, through 1945.
Sigurd was a 32nd-degree Mason and Past Grand Master. He and his wife lived downstairs in their home, which he had remodeled to a duplex, and rented out the upstairs. He had a cabin in the woods by Pike Lake.
He died 22 Apr 1966, aged 86, and is buried in the Rhode plot at Park Hill Cemetery in Duluth.

Sigurd A. Rhode, 86, of 2109 E. 2nd St., a past illustrious grand master of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Minnesota, died this morning in a Duluth hospital.
A Mason for 58 years, Mr. Rhode was a charter member of T. W. Hugo Masonic Lodge, a member of Keystone Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons and the Duluth Commandery of Knights Templar, and a past master of the Duluth Council of Royal and Select Masters.
Mr. Rhode had been a pharmacist in Duluth since soon after he arrived in the city in 1893. He was first employed by the Tofte Drug Store. From 1902 until 1938 he was with Northern Drug Co. and since then he had worked in many of the city's drug stores.
Born in Drammen, Norway, Mr. Rhode came to the United States in 1884. Surviving are his wife, Agnes; two sons, Robert B., Duluth and Richard S., Yucaipa, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Jack Kraker, Philadelphia, Penn. and six grandchildren.
