"William Albrecht, a German farmer living near the Branch, died January 26th, and was buried at the Branch Tuesday the 30th. The services were performed by the German Lutheran Minister from Manitowoc."

Albrecht, William (also shown as Wilhelm, his birth name is Friedrich Wilhelm) (Feb. 5, 1841-Jan. 27, 1883 –husband of Wilhelmine Plinske [married May 1, 1869 in the Town of Centerville] –son of Gottlieb Michael Albrecht [1814-1879] and Anna Christine Zielke [1824-1890] –born at Herzogthum in Posen, Brandenburg, Germany –veteran of the Civil War enlisting on Oct. 18, 1861 at Kingston, Green Lake County and mustered out on March 2, 1862 –served with Company I of the Third Wisconsin Cavalry –some military records show his name as William Albright –on Sept. 5, 1872, William and Wilhelmina purchased a 40-acre farm at 7039 Homestead Road in Section 9, Town of Manitowoc Rapids from Wilhelm and Wilhelmine Meyer –on Sept. 15, 1874, William sold 7 acres from this farm, leaving him a farm of 33 acres –William continued to own this farm until his death in 1883 –his wife Wilhelmine continued to own this farm until selling on July 15, 1901 –after this sale, Wilhelmine moved to the City of Manitowoc –in the 1880 census for the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, William and Wilhelmina are shown living on this farm with their children Mary, Martha, Henry, Emma, William, Hulda, and Charles –affidavit by Gustav Eickmeier concerning the health of William as applies to his widow's military pension "I saw him a few days after the soldier, William Albrecht, returned from the US Army. He looked pale and worn out to such an extent that he was unable to perform manual labor and so continued until the year 1870 when I removed to Iowa. Were up to that time near neighbors and were members of the same church, German Reformed. After my return to Newton. Wis., heard that the soldier, William, continued sickly until his death." –affidavit by F. C. Buerstatt "I am in the drugstore business and have sold medicine to Wm Albrecht at irregular periods off and on from about the fall of 1872 up to time of his death in 1883. Remember that he complained of incontinence of urine. Also furnished him with urinal bags." –these are just two of at least 8 such affidavits attesting to the poor health of William –died from "inflammation of kidneys with pyelitis –deceased suffered ever since his return from the army with chronic cystitis") –buried at the Branch Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Manitowoc Rapids [marriage record Manitowoc 4-25] [death record Manitowoc 4-33]
