Graveside Rites For Mrs. Cardwell Are Held Here

Graveside rites for Mrs. Mae Cardwell, 68, were held here at 3 p.m. Monday with Dr. Howard Aultman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Melvin Bryan of Mobile, taking part in the service. Interment was in Columbia Cemetery with Colonial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
A service had been held at 10 a. m. that day from a Baptist Church in Mobile, Ala., after which the body was brought to Columbia for final rites and interment at the side of her first husband, Jim Rhoden.
Mrs. Cardwell, a sister-in-law of Mrs. Guile Rogers of this city, died Saturday at 5 p.m. in a Mobile hospital after having been ill since the precious Wednesday.
Mrs. Cardwell was born and reared at Stonewall and lived a large part of her life in New Orleans before going to Mobile to reside. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Mobile.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wesley Covington of Mobile; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Gatlin of Mobile and Mrs. Lena Campbell of Pensacola, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Attending graveside rites Monday afternoon for Mrs. Mae Cardwell at Columbia Cemetery from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Covington and sons, Eugene, Paul, Edmond and Charles, and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Devon Saucier, Mrs. Ethel Gatlin, Mrs. Jessie L. Hearn, Mrs. Henderson and the Rev. Melvin Bryan of Mobile; Mrs. Lena Campbelll of Pensacola; Mrs. Frank McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCoy, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Blackman of Laurel. The family members and friends were guests in the home of Mrs. Cardwell's sister-in-law, Mrs. Guile Rogers, and Mr. Rogers for a buffet meal following the services and before returning to their homes.
