Mildred Chalberg

Mildred M. Chalberg, 97, Brainerd, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Fairview Southdale Hospital, Edina.
She was born Jan. 13, 1902, in Brainerd to Cornelius and Elizabeth O'Brien. She attended Washington High School and St. Francis School. She was a graduate of the College of St. Teresa and attended summer sessions at Columbia University and the University of Michigan. She taught in Norwood and at Washington High School in Brainerd. She married John Chalberg. She was involved in many community activities, including president of Brainerd Drama League, charter member and president of Brainerd Service League, president of St. Francis PTA, Council of Catholic Women, and the Brainerd Deanery, member of the diocesan board of the CCW and the foundation board of Brainerd Community College. She was director of St. Francis choir.
Survivors include one son, Dr. John "Chuck" Chalberg; one daughter, Mary Schommer; five grandchildren; and one sister, Sister Kathleen O'Brien.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father Richard Kunst officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, Brainerd, with a rosary service at 7 p.m. Memorials are preferred to the endowment fund for St. Francis School.
