US Congressman. He received a B.A. degree from Western Kentucky State College, in 1930, studied law at Ohio State University, in 1933, was admitted to the bar in 1934 and commenced the practice of law in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He was Federal conciliation commissioner for the western district of Kentucky, (1936-37), attorney of Warren County, (1938-50) and president of the Young Democratic Clubs of Kentucky, (1941-46). After serving in the US Navy during World War II, he was commonwealth attorney for the eighth judicial district of Kentucky, (1951-53). In 1953, he was elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-third Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Garrett L. Withers, was reelected to the next twenty succeeding Congresses and served until his death at age 84.
