HARRY L. "BUN" PETERSON
Harry L. "Bun" Peterson,77, Brainerd, died Saturday, Feb. 1,1997, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village.
He was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Brainerd to Harry and Goldie Peterson. He attended Whittier Grade School, Franklin Junior High School and graduated from Washington High School in 1937. He went to University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1937. He married Aura "Barb" Pihlaja on Jan. 1, 1942, in Macon, GA. He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1940 and retired as a Major after 22 years of service. During his military career, he served in Africa, Cassino, Anzio and was wounded in the break-through to Rome. He also served in the Korean War from the beginnign to the Yalta. He received the Purple Heart Award, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Medal and many battle stars and citations. Following his years in the service, he retired and entered St. Cloud State University and graduated in 1964. He taught English and History at Franklin Junior High School in Brainerd for 18 years. He was a member of Retired Officers Association, Purple Heart Association, American Legion, VFW, Aurora Lodge 100 A.F. & A.M., Elks, and Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Aura; a daughter, Patricia Strom, Rochester; a son Jon Peterson, Fargo, N.D.; six grand-children; and two great-grandsons.
Sevices will be 11 A.M. Wednesday at Park United Methodist Church with Pastor Laurence Foote Officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors by American Legion and VFW.
Friends may call at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd from 4-9 P.M. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at 7 P.M., and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the services.
