Chris' first book, "How to Organize Your Closet... and Your Life", was published in 1981. She organized Regis Philbin's closet on national TV and went on write three other books on organizing. Turning her intense intellectual curiosity to other areas, she wrote books about givers and takers, gender differences, the ego, and free will. Her books have been translated into five languages.
Born and raised in Fresno, Ca, Chris attended the University of California, Los Angeles on four scholarships and graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago.
In her youth she was an avid diver, water skier, ballet dancer and tennis player.
She worked as a blackjack dealer, a dental hygienist, a magazine columnist, and a yoga teacher.
She married Dave Williams in 1987 and the couple sailed the South Pacific for three years on their 43-foot sailboat. Over the course of their 27-year marriage, they lived in Sausalito, Port Townsend, Washington, and Kauai. Chris loved to travel and especially cherished the cafes of Paris.
Her favorite sayings were: "When in doubt, throw it out." "Give to Givers and take from Takers." And "We're not here for a long time; we're here for a good time."
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Peterson Vierra of Fresno; and her father, Ivan Peterson of Fresno.
She is survived by her husband Dave of Kauai; stepson, Ryan Williams of Bellingham, Washington; stepson, Joel Williams of Seattle, Washington; stepmom, Evie Evatt of Las Vegas; sister, Mia Comes and her husband Laurent of Kennelon, New Jersey; brother, Bruce Evatt of Grants Pass, Oregon; brother Eric Evatt and his wife Catalina of Guymas, and Paula Evatt and her husband Bob of Tucson, Arizona.
She is also survived by her three lovely nieces, Erica, Claire and Tessa.
