BAXTER Funeral services for Luke Leftwich, 79, of Baxter, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. Burial will be in Leftwich Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends after 2 p.m. today, April 10, at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Leftwich died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 19, 1926, in the Buffalo Valley Community of Putnam County to the late Waymon and Avo Buckner Leftwich.
Mr. Leftwich was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, song leader and board of trustees member. Mr. Leftwich was a Mason, serving with High Twelve Lodge #577 in Detroit, Mich.
His family includes his wife of 50 years, Joyce Helm Leftwich of Baxter; two daughters and sonsinlaw, Sharon and Shields Griggs of Cookeville and Gail and Dale Myers of Baxter; three sons and a daughterinlaw, Larry Leftwich of Baxter, Ken Leftwich of Northville, Mich., and Herb and Lavinia Leftwich of Baxter; a sister, Edna Foutch of Cookeville; 11 grandchildren, Melanie Nabors, Ken Leftwich, Marty, Luke, Kale, Jake and Matthew Leftwich, Tiffanie Harness, Amber Griggs and Whitney and Celeste Myers;
and three greatgrandchildren, Katelin and Samuel Harness and Riley Leftwich.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Katie Bussell Leftwich; two daughtersinlaw,
Anita and Diane Leftwich; a sister, Retta Vanatta; and a brother, Burch Leftwich.
