Birth: 19 Nov 1868, Fayetteville, Searcy, Arkansas
Death: 4 May 1952. Mountain Home, Elmore, Idaho
Mattie was a strong yet gentle pioneer woman. Although she endured many hardships in her life, she remained up-beat and positive throughout her life. She had a dry wit and a fun sense of humor. One old-timer described her as everyone's mother as all felt comfortable in her presence. Her grandson remembers her handmade corn husk tamales and other delicious favorites. She was a wonderful cook and was accustomed to having to feed large crowds unexpectedly.
She was busy with service all the days of her life and supported her husband in everything he pursued, and he supported her as well.
Their family was a close-knit group who loved each other deeply.
