Although Jennie was born in Illinois, it is unclear why she came to California. But she married her husband, Ed Gish, in San Jose. Then they went to Bishop, CA, traversing the Sierra's Greenhorn Pass in 1894 in a covered wagon. They settled in the Owens Valley for a few years then started an alfalfa ranch in Lancaster, CA, and finally settled in Redondo Beach where she and Ed had a diversified farm of 10 acres. This was at the corner of Torrance Blvd. and Victor Streets. Jennie was a very loving woman, mother, and grandmother. She had six children and many descendents live today. She taught Baptist sunday school.
