Ed took his family from San Jose to the Owens Valley over Greenhorn Pass in a covered wagon in 1894. They bought a ranch and later moved to Lancaster, CA, where they started an alfalfa ranch. They finally settled in Redondo Beach at the corner of Torrance Blvd. and Victor Street where they had 10 acres and a diversified farm. There were few settlers there then. Ed and his wife, Jennie, were very sweet, generous, and hard working people. They both taught Baptist sunday school. Ed was descended from German Baptist "plain people."
