Appointed 1st Sergeant of Company K, 4th Regiment Georgia State Troops October 25, 1861. Mustered out April 1862. Elected Jr. 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, 34th Regiment Georgia Infantry May 13, 1862; 2nd Lieutenant June 30, 1862. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 4 July 1863 and paroled 8 July 1863 with brother Asa M. Huggins. Hastin was killed at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Tennessee November 25, 1863.
