Joan Eileen Vine who died in the London Blitz. It appears that Joan may be the only fatality in the Hampton wick area, though others may have been accounted for elsewhere. This memorial is provisional as she is not believed to be buried locally. Indeed, she lived in West Byfleet. Her death came towards the end of the so-called Little Blitz when the Germans returned to heavy bombing before switching to the V1 flying bomb. Joan's death occured on an evening when Hampton Wick was subject to incendiary bomb attack, with hits occuring in Station Road, Park Road, Vicarage Road, High Street and Upper Teddington Road.
