He married Elizabeth Wallace Cairns, December 10, 1885 in Elma Twp., Perth Co., Ontario, Canada, Rev. D. Duck, Baptist, Witnesses: Alexander Cairns & William (Cairns) Forrest. (brother)

He was employed by Grand Trunk Railroad at Stratford, Ontario and "CPR" [Canadian Pacific Railroad] as a train car inspector. He moved westward with the expansion of the railroad, living in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where his wife and infant son, Wallace, died in 1900. He lived in Brandon, Manitoba with his young family. While in Swift Current area he decided to purchase land on the Saskatchewan River and left the railroad at Brandon and homesteaded in 1909 at Vermilion Hills - Log Valley, Saskatchewan. He and his half-brothers and step-mother, Mary, ranched at Log Valley. Several family members are buried at Log Valley Cemetery.

His home served as the Vermillion Hills Post Office for a time. He left ranching and moved into the city of Swift Current where he was active in politics.

Isabella 'Bella' (Mrs. Edw. Barnwell), Mary (Mrs. Alex B. Patterson), Rachel (Mrs. Alex Murdock), Arthur, Chester (Violet nee Massey Young), Wallace Victor-infant.
