ROGERSVILLE -- William F. Phipps, age 88, Rogersville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in the emergency room at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Hawkins County and had resided in the Rogersville area all his life. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Seabees in New Guinea. He was a retired businessman and state employee, and was the former mayor of the Town of Rogersville.

He was preceded in death by a son, William F. Phipps Jr.; father and mother, William F. and Minnie Phipps; two sisters, Mary Doty, Rogersville, and Charlotte Michelson, Holland MI.

He is survived by his wife, Nell Phipps, Rogersville; two sons, Heiskell Phipps, Rogersville, and Allen Phipps and daughter-in-law Lois, Fairlawn, NJ.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2000, at McKinney Cemetery with Rev. Carl Jones officiating.

Memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under direction of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
