DECATUR — Alan R. Berndt, 76, of Decatur died Tuesday (April 27, 2004) in his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Father Dennis Kollross officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Alan was born Sept. 13, 1927, in Chicago, the son of Rex Oliver and Alice Gath Berndt. Alan was a member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at Millikin University and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1948 and from 1951 to 1952. He retired from Illinois Power Co., where he worked as a draftsman. He married Patricia on July 14, 1951, in Decatur.
Surviving are his sons, David Berndt and Chris Berndt and wife Laura, all of Decatur; daughters, Sue Berndt of Champaign; daughter, Cathy Beckway and husband Clark of Bolingbrook; grandsons, Brian Berndt and Patrick Berndt; granddaughter, Megan Beckway.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
The family thanks Dr. Guaglianone, Cancer Care specialist nurses and the nurses at Decatur Memorial Hospital and Hospice for their caring and encouragement.
