From the recollection of James Calloway Travis as dictated to his niece, Cora Lenora Travis: "...Only two sons Joseph M. and John D. raising considerable families. Joseph M. Travis married twice, first to Rachael Cross who died. Joseph M. after losing first wife was married to Miss Margarette Johns, who raised five sons and 3 daughters. All of whom have families except one. Nicholas Travis married Mamie Shadd. John Travis married Miss O'Bannon. Brooks married Esther Henderson. Maggie married Mannie Brewton, Julia married Jessie Bafily. All have raised and are raising families. Gus and Charles died at an early age. Joseph, died in the year of 1909 leaving a worthy widow."
