Rites Held For Culligan, Long Time Resident

Funeral services for Simon Martin Culligan. 79, were held Jan, 30 at the Assumption Church in Emmetsburg at 10:30 with the Rev. Roger Augustine, assistance pastor officiating. Burial was at St John's cemetery.
Pall bearers were Martin Stuier. Jr., Leo Conway, Sr., Gene Martini, Greg Borman, Joe Walsh and Larry Kemmer.
Mr Culligan was born in Littleport in 1885, the son of Mary Kane and Martin Culigan. In 1919 he married Miss Sarah Houck and the young couple moved to a farm at the edge of Emmetsburg. Mr and Mrs. Culligan had lived in the same home since their marriage.
Mr Culligan is survived by his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Patrick Swift of Mt Ranier, MD. Proceding him in death were his Parents, Mr and Mrs. Martin Culligan, nine brothers and two sisters.
Ill for several years, Mr Culligan never complained, and as long as he was able, he kept active in his farm work. Quiet and of a generous disposition he had made many friends during his nearly half a century in Emmetsburg. His death is mourned by them as well as his family.
