Eva-Maria Buch was born in Charlonttenburg a Borough of Berlin, she was educated at a Catholic School and taught by nuns. Buch later attended seminars at Berlin University for interpreters.
She held strong anti-nazi views and did not believe in the dreams of the nazi state and their ideology. Buch became an active anti-nazi and became involved with the Red Orchestra(Rote Kapelle Soviet espionage rings operating inside Germany.) During a wave of arrests of the Red Orchestra and associated persons, Buch was arrested by the Gestapo on the 11th October 1942.
Buch was charged with Treason - the main evidence against her was an article intended for the slave labourers working in the munition factories,which she had translated into French.
Buch was found guilty and sentenced to Death.
Her parents appealed directly to Adolf Hitler for clemency - but he refused. Eva-Maria Buch was hanged at Plotzensee Prison Berlin on the 5th August 1943 aged 22.
She is remembered in Berlin: A Memorial Stone at Unter den Linden. A Plaque near St Hedwig's Cathederal.
