NORTH OGDEN- William Nathan Barker, 73, of 2463 Fruitland Dr., died this morning at his home after an extended illness.
Mr. Barker helped organize the North Ogden Fruit Exchange and served as president for 25 years. He was the chairman of the first North Ogden Cherry Day Celeberation. He was a former president of the Cold Water Creek Irrigation Co. and North Ogden Farm Bureau. In 1939 he was believed to be the first person selected by the Weber County Chapter of Future Farmers of America to receive the Master Farmer Award. He helped secure and arbitrate the land for the Pine View Dam. He was a past member of the Ogden Rotary Club.
He served an LDS mission to the Western kStates and had worked in the North Ogden Ward MIA and Sunday School. He was a former member of the Ogden Stake Sunday School Board, the Ogden Stake High Council and the Ben Lomond Stake High Council.
He was born Dec. 18, 1883, in North Ogden, a son of Henry and Margaret Stale Barker. He was educated in Ogden High School and Utah State Agricultural college.
On Dec. 22, 1909, he married Iva Bailey in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
Surviving are his widow, four sons and daughters, Ray B. and Carl N. Barker, North Ogden; Mrs. George E. (Ellen) Monahan and Mrs. Larry A. (Florence) Dastrup, Ogden; 14 grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, Henry Barker, Ogden; Fred Barker, North Ogden; James L. Barker, Salt Lake City; Mrs. I. L. (Lily) Richards, Ogden.
Funeral services willb e conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. inl the LDS North Ogden Second Ward by Bishop Lowell C. Cutler. Friends may call at teh Larkin Mortuary tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the family home Thursday after 10 a.m. Burial in North Ogden Cemetery.
