Henry was part of a large, Catholic, German-American family emanating from Ostercappeln, Germany.

Henry was a WWI veteran and worked at Boatmen's Bank in St. Louis, MO, until his retirement.

Through his good friend, Dr. W. Louis Schuchat, Henry was able to transfer his sister Anna from St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, IL, to Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, for state-of-the-art hospice care (long before the word "hospice" was used).
