Terry Dale McElroy, 52, of Auburn, Ill., passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center's Emergency Room in Springfield.
He was born Jan. 26, 1959, in Taylorville, Ill., the son of Robert D. and Barbara A. Hickey McElroy. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pearl and Frank McElroy and John and Helen Hickey, and his Uncle Frankie.
Terry graduated from Pawnee High School in 1977. He was a power plant operator at the Sangamon Valley Landfill. Terry was a Ford man and a car lover. He also loved to play his guitar and sing.
Terry is survived by his companion, Dawn Horrighs, of Auburn; his parents, Robert and Barbara McElroy, of Pawnee; seven sons, Joshua (fiancé, Jami Knox) McElroy, of Pawnee, Justin (companion, Krista Staple) McElroy, of Pawnee, Tyler McElroy, of Auburn, TJ (companion, Mindy Grigsby) McElroy, of Virden, Derek Horrighs, Jordon McElroy and Jacob McElroy, all of Auburn; one daughter, Taylor McElroy, of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Tylee, Talan, Joselyn, Jaylie, Riley and Trinity; one sister, Vonda Dougherty, of Pawnee; one brother, Rodney McElroy, of Divernon; one nephew; two nieces; and two great-nieces.
Terry's family will meet friends on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon at the Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee with the Rev. Scott Kelley officiating. Burial will be at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family to cover funeral expenses.
