US Congressman. He graduated from the University of Illinois Law School at Champaign in 1937, was admitted to the bar that same year and commenced the practice of law in Pekin, Illinois. After serving in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II, he became a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in sabotage and counter-espionage division. In 1946, he was elected county judge of Tazewell County Illinois. He was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-first Congress in 1949 and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1957. Not a candidate for renomination, he resumed the practice of law and was the regional counsel for General Services Administration, Lansing, Illinois, until he retired in 1974.
