WOODS, Robert Asher Age 89, resident of Winter Springs, Florida, formally of Fremont, California and Hamilton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Lutheran Haven Nursing Home in Florida after courageous struggles with cancer and Parkinson's disease. Robert was born and raised in Goose Rock, Kentucky, until he left to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He left the CCC and entered the United States Army and served in World War II and during the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. He worked for many years in Hamilton at Bendix Aviation Corporation, served as President of the local IAM and was also a lifelong member of the Washington Masonic Temple in Hamilton. He moved from Hamilton with his wife Myrtle and son Gary to Fremont, California and worked at the Fremont General Motors Assembly Plant as a Millwright Welder and was very active in the United Auto Workers Union, until he retired in 1981 and moved to Florida. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing and going to the beach with his grandchildren April, Michael and Matthew, and his great-grandson Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel (Asher) Woods; brother, Robert B. Woods; and sister, Loretta Franklin. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Myrtle; son, Gary (Lynn); three grandchildren, April, Michael, and Matthew; great-grandson, Dylan; sister, Virginia Starr; and brother, Robert Carl (Neeva) Woods. He also leaves behind three sisters-in-law, Pearl Bowling, Virginia Stewart and Virgie Schick; two brothers-in-law, Donald Wilson and John B. Stewart; and many loved nephews and nieces. Robert touched the lives of many people with his willingness to help them with finding work and welcoming them into his home. He always provided kind words, wise council, and suggestions on how to live and improve our lives. He was a patriot, loving husband and father. Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton, on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 1pm. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Family and friends will be received prior to the service on Wednesday from 11am-1pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Robert's name to the American Cancer Society , 2808 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206. Condolences to the family may be given at www.Webb-Noonan.com
