Son of Mrs. Herschel Cummings who resided in Rochester, New York.

Varian served as a Private in the 330th Infantry, U.S. Army during World War II. He enlisted in the Army on Sept. 29, 1943 in Rochester, New York.

He resided at 2553 Clinton Avenue S., Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on September 8, 1943 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic with Walley's Aligning Center and also as Single, with dependents.

Varian was "Killed In Action" in France during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was first interred overseas and later re-interred here on Sat., Apr. 17, 1948.
