U.S. Congressman. Born in Oakland, California, he was successful in agricultural pursuits and fruit growing. In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1953. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was president of California Canning Pear Association, with the Department of Agriculture, (1954-55), Administrative assistant to President Eisenhower, (1956-61) and served as member of staff of Veterans' Affairs Committee, in 1962. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at age 76.
