Rick Hughes, 44, Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 2, 2011, in Johnson City.

A native of Johnson City, he was a son of Kyle "Dickie" Hughes, Chattanooga, and the late Linda Thomas Hughes Kyte.

Rick was a charming, witty, and loving man, whose greatest gift was his mother's tender heart that he showed to all his family and friends.

He attended Grace Freewill Baptist Church and attended Daniel Boone High School before graduating in 1985 from Science Hill High School.

In addition to his father, Rick is survived by his daughter, Macey Logan Hughes, Springfield, Mo; his son, Austin Michael Hughes, of the home; his brother, David Hughes and wife, Heather, Chattanooga; his maternal grandmother, Lucille Thomas Keezel, Johnson City. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive Rick, who are and will remain devoted to his memory.

His family's mourning of Rick's passing is turned to joy in the knowledge of Rick's lifelong commitment to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The funeral service for Rick will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, 2011, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Hurt officiating. Special music will be provided by Dave Foster.

To honor a steadfast and lifelong commitment to Rick, the following are chosen as honorary pallbearers Bob Newell, Donnie Newell, Tim Ricker, Todd Weise, Chris Leach and Stacie Fox.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

It was the wishes of Rick to be cremated.

In-lieu-of flowers donations may be made to Rick's children, Macey and Austin, in care of Todd and Tammy Weise, 120 Leedy Ln, Jonesborough, TN 37659.
