He was honored in his lifetime with countless awards including several Grammy Awards(one for his composition "Gravy Waltz"),the All-Stars poll of Playboy Magaazine, the Down Beat Reader's Poll Awards and the Jazz Critic's Poll Awards. Brown was also married to Ella Fitzgerald from 1947 to 1952. At the time of his death he was on tour in the U.S. and still on the heights of his long lasting career, giving concerts and extended world wide tours and recording's until the very end.
