Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Prince, 90, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 in Carrollton, Texas where she lived with her beloved niece, Jan and husband, Jim Young. Visitation will be at Frank Wilson Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, at 2pm at First Baptist Church of Odessa with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Miss Prince received her BS and MS degrees from the University of Missouri. She came to Odessa in 1953 and served for 32 years as Director of Elementary Education until her retirement in 1984. During that time, she served as Visiting Summer Faculty at Eastern Montana College and the University of Maine. She was a consultant for summer reading workshops across the nation and served on the State Board of Examiners for Teacher Education, Program Review Committee for the State Board of Examiners, In-service Review Panel for the Texas Education Agency, Board of Directors of Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Advisory Board to the State Board of Examiners. She received the Citation for Distinguished Service to Education from the University of Missouri, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Builders Award, and was honored by the ECISD Friends of Education. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Pi Lamba Theta and numerous education associations. Following her retirement, she was an active member of the Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years.

A teacher with keen insight and understanding of children, and a regard for the differences that exist among them. A supervisor who respected the integrity and worth of those with whom she worked, bringing out their best qualities. An educational leader of recognized ability whose reputation placed her in positions of guidance and leadership. A person whose character, charm, and graciousness were a constant source of inspiration to everyone she met. She dedicated her life to the education of children.

Miss Prince is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Aaron E. Prince and Pearl Bonner Prince, four sisters, Esther, Ruth, Mary, and Grace, and one brother, A. E. "Bud" Prince, Jr. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Prince, nieces, Janet Prince Young and husband, Jim Young, Judie Prince, Donna Wiese, Norma Jackson, and nephew, Jim Prince. She is also survived by great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Memorials may be sent to the Music Fund of First Baptist Church of Odessa or the American Heart Association.

Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
