E. E. ASKEW DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Funeral services for Mr. Ellis Askew, age 41 years, were held from the First Baptist Church of Columbia, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. H. W. Ellis, the pastor officiating. Mr. Askew was stricken with Pleurisy last Sunday afternoon and died at his home on Church Street at an early hour Monday morning. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Askew and came to Columbia 25 years ago with his parents. Soon after arriving at manhood, he was married to Miss Eunice Singletary at Oakdale, La., returning to his Columbia home soon thereafter and has since followed the trait of the carpenter. Besides the mother and father, deceased is survived by the wife, a son, Luther Harrell and an infant daughter Bettie Joy, three sisters: Mrs. A. J. Davis of Oakdale, La., Mrs. Wessie Jarrell and Miss Essie Askew of Columbia and a brother, Mr. E. H. Askew of Poplarville. Mr. Askew was a veteran of the World War and saw service in the front line trenches on flanders fields and he was an enthusiastic member of the local post of the American Legion, members of which serving as pall bearers.

IN MEMORY
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ELLIS E. ASKEW
DIED JAN 06, 1931
When the evening shadows are falling,
And we are sitting all alone
In our hearts there comes a longing
If you could only be home
Oh, our home is sad without you
And our hearts are filled with pain.
Still this world would seem like Heaven,
If we had you back again.
Some may think that we forgot you
Though on earth you are no more,
But in memory you are with us
As you always were before.
Sadly missed by: wife and children, mother and father.
