Along with his brother and father, Albert L. Johnson became an early day "rapid transit magnate". The three entered into the world of the trolley and the electric train and eventually bought the Nassau Railroad in New York City. Johnson died suddenly of a heart attack while visiting his brother, Tom L. Johnson, who was Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio at the time. Albert was buried in the Johnson family plot at Green-Wood on July 5, 1901 following a funeral at his family residence on Shore Road and Ninety-ninth Street, Fort Hamilton.
