Memorial services for S. Sgt. Derald W. Melton, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Melton 449 Park avenue will be held during the 11 a.m. services Sunday at the Broadway Methodist church, the Rev. L. E. Watson officiating. Sgt. Melton reported missing in action since Dec. 27, 1944 has been officially declared dead. He enlisted in the air corps in November 1942 and was with the 8th air force in England. He was on his thirty fifth combat mission when his plane, a B-17 was hit over a target at Koblenz, Germany. Only two survivors were reported. Sgt. Melton wore the purple heart the air medal with three clusters and the presidential unit citation. Other survivors include a sister, Lt. The body of S/Sgt. Derald W. Melton, 21, world war II veteran, will arrive in Council Bluffs Thursday and be taken to Woodring funeral home. Sgt. Melton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Melton, 449 Park avenue, and was killed in action Dec. 27, 1944, in the Battle of the Bulge. Funeral arrangements are pending. Burial will be in Walnut Hill.
