JAMES E. VELTEN, 83, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2011, at his home in Fort Wayne. Born in Lafayette, James was an Army veteran and a pharmacist with Walgreens Company for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, 451. He was a graduate of Purdue University and was a fan of Chicago Bears and White Sox. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Velten; sons, David (Mary) Velten of Winston-Salem, N.C. and John E. Velten of Fort Wayne; grandchildren: Michael and Sarah Velten; sister-in-law, Mary Bessone of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; sister, Agnes Adwell of Sun City, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Blanche (Fleener) Velten; brother, Robert Velten; and sisters, Alice Penrod, Mary Clodjeaux, and Margaret "Peg" Barr. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Rd., with calling one hour prior. Fr. Anthony Steinacker officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery.
