J. L. Hart III, 81, of Duncan, Okla., died on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at home in Duncan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
He was born Nov. 5, 1929 in Chickasha, Okla., the son of Joseph Luther Jr. and Eva Jane (Whitehurst) Hart. He married Amy Geraldine (Geri) Bryant on July 5, 1949 at Boerne, Texas. She preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2002.
J. L. worked in the oil industry 40 years and was employed with Sun Oil Company, Oryx Energy Company and Apache Corporation in Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado and Michigan.
He was an active member of West Side Christian Church and also a member of Sun-Oryx Energy Retiree Association.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Lynn Hart and wife Marcia of Virginia Beach, Virginia and James Hart of Pennsylvania, two brothers, John D. Hart of Amarillo, Texas and Ted Hart of Eatonton, Georgia, four grandchildren: Joel Hart, Lynette McGraw, John Hart and Jimmy Hart.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard Hart and a sister, Eva Jo Gentry.
Pallbearers will be: Kenneth Hightower, Jimmy Rochell, Randy Rosine, Blaise Hackler, Bobby Peters and Harry Reynolds.
Honorary bearers are: Lois and W.C. Hackler, Janet Rosine, Jean Hart and Barbara Snodgrass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: West Side Christian Church.
