Merv was born at Langham, SK; son of J.E. & Louisa Willoughby. In 1939, Merv married Edna Rennick, daughter of Ralph & Denise Rennick. They had a daughter Sharon (Jim Brown) & son Michael. Merv received schooling at Wakaw, Milestone & Scott Collegiate, in Regina. He served on the Royal Bank staff at Milestone and at Rosetown, before working at the Milestone Mail office. Merv's father , J.E. Wiioughby had assumed ownership of the weekly Milestone Mail newspaper, in 1925. Mervy assumed ownership of the paper in 1967; was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1952 & appointed Coroner in 1958, until his sudden death. He was projectionist at the Milestone Theatre for 35 years. He coached boys' baseball & hockey.
