Information extracted from personal files of Ruth Hasten Walsh.
Daddy was an avid fisherman. He often contributed 25-50 pounds of fish filets (crappie, strippers, and catfish) for community and/or church gatherings. When Rev. Wm. F. Forrest, minister of St. John Episcopal church in Pottsboro, TX, wanted to go fishing, he'd stop by Leon Hasten's place and ask where the fish were biting. Each year in January or February the two of them (Leon and Rev. Forrest) would set out piles of Christmas trees in selected areas of Lake Texoma. The following spring they'd return to the Christmas tree beds to fish for crappie. Twice a year St. John's held a fish fry. For each fish fry, Leon donated about 50 pounds of fish filets (mostly crappie).
The following is Rev. Forrest's tribute to his fishing pal, Leon C. Hasten:

EULOGY (extracted from Hastings/Hasting/Hasten research records of Ruth Hasten Walsh): "Lord Jesus Christ, You chose four fishermen to be your first disciples. You went fishing with them on the lake. You rode with them in their boat, and when they feared for their lives, you stilled the storm. You walked across the billows to rescue them. You cooked their breakfast upon the shore. Mercifully hear our prayers on behalf of your servant, Leon, who chose to launch his boat upon the lake that he might also be called a fisherman. We entrust him to your never-failing care and love, knowing that you are already doing far better things for him than we can either know or even presume to hope for. We do so in sure and certain confidence that you will greet him on that other shore where, with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign. Our God, forever and ever, Amen."
