Founder Of Tire Company And Seven Store Chain.

Charles E. Kimmel, founder of the C. E. Kimmel Tire Company died yesterday morning at Bon Secours Hospital following an illness of several weeks. He was 68.

Mr. Kimmel, whose first store was on Mount Royal Avenue, operated the seven store chain in partnership with three of his sons, Charles R., J. Russell and Frank R. Kimmel.

That first store had just three employees when it was opened in 1938. Today the chain has more than 100 employees in its Baltimore area locations.

Born and educated in Baltimore, Mr. Kimmel began his career in 1919 with the Martin J. Barry and Son Company, rising to the position of sales manager in 1938, when he resigned to start his own company.

During World War 1, Mr. Kimmel served in both the Army and Navy. He belonged to the Blessed Sacrement Catholic Church, the Merchants Club, the Baltimore Country Club and the Baltimore Lions Club. He lived at 3549 Newland road.

Besides his three sons, he is survived by his wife, the former Mildred J. Russell; another son William R. Kimmel; a daughter, Mrs. William Strum; a sister, Mrs. Robert Judge, and ten grandchildren.

Charles is the son of Charles August (1860-1917)and Katherine (Hosfros) (1861-1936) Kimmel. In addition to his sister, Florence Judge, he had two other sisters: Marie G. (1887-1960) and Sarah Ellen Kimmel (1888-1957),
