Thorvald Aalgaard, 88 died Wednesday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Home in Billings, Montana.

He was born December 18, 1891 in Sokendal, Norway, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Johan Aalgaard. He came to the United States in 1910 and settled in Big Timber, Montana. He spent the early part of his life in Sweet Grass County as a sheepshearer and working on ranches until he purchased the Sivert Mydland ranch in 1947 where he lived until he retired in 1961.

He was married to Gladys Aalgaard on February 20, 1916 in Big Timber, Montana. Mr. Aalgaard was a veteran of World War I where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Big Timber Lutheran Church and Sweet Grass American Legion Post No. 19.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Aalgaard of Big Timber, two daughters, Agnes Braaten of Billings and Gertrude Anderson of Lodge Grass; three sons, John Aalgaard and Harold Aalgaard, both of Billings and Thelmer Aalgaard of Mountain View, California; two sisters and two brothers living in Norway; twenty-four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews living in Norway. He was preceded in death by one daughter and two grandsons.

Services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowry Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene W. Nilsen of the Big Timber Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery.

Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post No. 19.

Casket bearers were Larry Aalgaard, Barry Aalgaard, Terry Aalgaard, Burch Braaten, Greg Braaten and Duane Tronrud.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Brian Aalgaard, Bruce Aalgaard, Don Aalgaard, Steve Aalgaard, and Mike Aalgaard.

Music was by Mr. and Mrs. David Roys. THe selections were "In The Garden" and "How Great Thou Art".
