Dr. Maurice L. Zee, died peacefully at Tucson Medical Center on June 3, 2001 at the age of 88 years old.

Survived by his wife, Mavis Zee; and daughters, Linda DeVore, Donna Zee and Dorothy (Bobby) Lanier; sister, Beatrice Trop; grandchildren, Donna Jean Shockley, Mark (Ruth) Jeppson, Brett Jeppson, Jennifer Jeppson, Kelly Jeppson, Lonny Zee Sternberg and Samuel Zee Sternberg; and great-grandchildren, Brian Latimore, Christopher Collins and Seth Jeppson.

Dr. Zee was born on March 10, 1913 in Chicago, IL. Dr. Zee graduated from Northwestern Medical School and interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Later Dr. Zee served in World War II throughout Europe and Africa as a Captain with the Army Medical Corps. Upon his return from the war, Dr. Zee practiced pediatrics in Chicago for several years and then moved to Tucson, AZ when he was 50 years old. Along with opening his own practice, Dr. Zee was on the staff as a physician for the pediatric clinic, at the Pima County Hospital on South 6th Ave. Dr. Zee was also instrumental in initiating the children's program, which is now the Head Start Program for children. Dr. Zee was on staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tucson Medical Center and University Medical Center.

Dr. Zee's service to the community entailed a position on the board at the Ronald McDonald House, a lifetime member of Steele Memorial Children's Research Center and a lifetime member of Jewish Children and Family Services. Dr. Zee was a very active congregate of Temple Emanu-El and a board member of Jewish Historical Society and Mimonities.

He is loved and respected by all of Tucson and will be missed.
