Martin A. Carter died Tuesday, May 15, 2001.
He was born in Greeneville, Tenn., Dec. 1, 1919. Mr. Carter was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a tailgunner on a B-17 bomber. He retired from DuPont, was an avid gardener and member of the American Dahlia Society and a fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Carter; son, David Carter, Hixson; two daughters, Gloria Long and Linda Hughes, both of Hixson; one stepson, Edward "Ted" Baskette, Webster, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Alma Carter, Greeneville; and nephew, Gary Carter, Greeneville.
Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at U.S. National Cemetery, with the Rev. Troy L. Kile officiating. [Contributor: Karen R]
