Mary Jane came to Utah with her parents and siblings in the William McPherson Company, which left for Salt Lake City on June 27, 1851 and arrived in Salt Lake on September 5, 1851. James Abbott Lemmon and his family were in the same wagon train. Mary Jane went on to marry James' brother, John Lemmon, the next year.
Mary married John Lemmon on April 4 1852 in Salt Lake City, Utah. John was 45 and Mary was 15.
They had five children together:
William Smith Lemmon (1854-1922)
Peter Kimball Lemmon (1856-1928)
Martha Jane Lemmon (1859-1940)
Mary Ann Lemmon (1861-1932)
Elizabeth Jane Lemmon (1863-1865)
Mary died seven days after her last child, Elizabeth Jane, was born. Mary Jane probably died from complications of childbirth.
Age: 26 yrs 4 mos 28 days
Mary was probably buried in the Ephraim Pioneer Cemetery, although she is not in the early cemetery records, which were transcribed September, 1966.
There are many unmarked graves and graves with deteriorating headstones in the cemetery; one of them is probably for Mary Jane.
