72ND OVI COMPANY E
ENLISTED OCTOBER 1861
DIED JANUARY 27, 1863 AT CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI

Sam lived in Lake Township, Wood County, Ohio and enlisted from there. He was the eldest son of Rudolph and Lovina Zimmerman Lusher and had siblings David, Benjamin, Emeline, Ellen, Mary Ann, Delilah, and Ezra. The Battle of Corinth was the last major Confederate offensive in North Mississippi and opened the way to Vicksburg and Union control of the Mississippi River. There is a question as to whether Sam lost his life in battle or died in a POW camp.
