James H Marcum, March 10,1920, 85 years, 9 months and 18 days of age. He had been ill only about one week and his death was a shock to the neighborhood as he was not thought to be seriously ill until shortly before he died. "Uncle Jim" as he was called by all that knew him, was the oldest resident for miles around and a friend to all.
He was married twice - the first time to Miss Martha Hooper of Arkansas and to them were born two children; the second marriage was to Miss Catherine Cochran of Illinois, and to them were born nine children of which seven survive.
He was of a kind disposition and will be greatly missed by the people of this and surrounding neighborhoods. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Catherene Marcum five sons: W T Marcum of Oklahoma, Everett Marcum of Bluff Boom; R H Marcum of Illinois; Ben Marcum of Webbs, Ky; Scott Marcum of Detroit, Michigan; four daughters: Mrs. Sallie Bowman, Mrs. T W Russell of Webbs, Ky; Mrs. Birch Watkins of Iowa; and Miss Helen Marcum of Webbs, Ky; also a sister Mrs. Jane Bland of Kansas to mourn his demise.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. L Risen and he was laid to rest in the old family graveyard at R. A. Montgomery's to await the resurrection morn.
