The parents of William D Hudgens are believed to possibly be John Hudgens and wife Amelia Foster. There is some controversy among descendants/ researchers as to who was the grandfather of William D Hudgens, and father of this John Hudgens. Many trees show the grandparents as Drury Hudgens and Lizzie Murray Woodsen. However, researcher "Lisa" has found an old Hudgens family record on the Virginia Library Archives website, that is labled as "John M. Hudgens- His Book, Cumberland Co, VA 1831" and purports to be a family bible. In it, there are genealogical entries with enough discrepancies to raise questions as to whether John Hudgens, father of William D. Hudgens, could be the same John Hudgens who was the son of Drury Hudgens. While this purported "family bible" record is written in a very old book, it is not known when the records were actually written or by whom. It appears to be a manuscript listing several generations of Hudgens family, but is unsourced and undocumented. Locating digitized copies of actual Will and Probate records for this family line may some day clear up the confusion and mysteries in this lineage. The names of John, William, and Drury were common in this Hudgens line in multiple generations, with siblings often naming their offspring with these same names; this has added to the confusion in this family line.
