Laverne was born June 25, 1932 at Truby in Jones County to Leslie Fredrick and Jewell (Tedford) Lipham. She married Delbert F. "Barney" Barnes June 19, 1954 at Noodle. He preceded her in death May 14, 2004. Laverne was a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ and the Truby Reunion Society. She was a homemaker, quilter, and an avid collector of teapots and salt and pepper shakers. She enjoyed working in her vegetable and flower gardens and especially loved red roses.
Survivors include 2 sons, Darrel Barnes and wife Rose Marie of Waco, Max Barnes of Granbury; daughter, Valinda Stewart and husband Robert of San Angelo; sister, Mary Stanley of Merkel; 5 grandchildren, Brad, Ashley, Taylor, Robby and Curtiss; and 2 great grandchildren, Nathanial and Kayli.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Billie Darr, Leslie Fredrick "Jr." and Curtis Lipham; 1 grandson, David Barnes; and her husband, Barney Barnes.
