But before we reduce this boy for all the talk of terrorist sympathies or dismiss him as "crazy" we ought to look at the human being who cared and felt and in the end, was lost in suffering no one saw or understood. Charles knew a sad amount of pain early on with a troubled family situation and frequent moves around the country. Yet friends and teachers remembered him as a very bright straight-A student who was always pleasant and respectful. He was an excellent writer, he was a loyal friend to his peers and although he was quiet he was kind and generous to those who knew him. He loved his flying lessons and hoped to join the Air Force one day. May Charles finally have found peace.
